Kasaï-Central: Mbombo dam project aims to improve electricity supply in Kananga and surrounding areas

Prime Minister Judith Suminwa is expected in Kananga to launch construction of the Mbombo hydroelectric dam on the Lulua River, about 15 kilometres from the city. Provincial authorities describe it as a short-term response to poor electricity access while the Katende dam awaits commissioning. Governor Joseph-Moïse Kambulu says Mbombo could bring electricity to residents within 18 months, while Katende is intended to meet broader needs, including industrial demand. Feasibility studies and preparatory work at the site have already been completed.
