Three cholera-related deaths reported in one week in Fizi

The South Kivu provincial health division confirmed the presence of cholera in several localities within Fizi territory, reporting three deaths between September 14 and 20, 2026. An increase in diarrhea cases has been observed, mainly in areas along Lake Tanganyika, with about ten patients reported by the territory administrator, Samy Kalondji. Health authorities are urging the population to improve hygiene measures, including handwashing, covering and properly cooking food, to prevent further spread of the disease.
