NGE, SERAP sue NBC ‘over threat to sanction broadcasters for expressing opinions’

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) have filed a lawsuit against the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) over an 'arbitrary and unconstitutional Formal Notice.' They challenge the threats to sanction broadcasters for expressing personal opinions as facts, arguing that this violates the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution. SERAP and NGE are also seeking an injunction to prevent the NBC from imposing sanctions based on vague and overly broad provisions of the Nigerian Broadcasting Code.
