2026 Ranking of Best African Universities: Francophone World Missing

The top 10 best African universities in 2026 is dominated by South Africa and Egypt, with no francophone university in the list. The University of Cape Town (122nd globally) leads, followed by Cairo University (221st) and University of the Witwatersrand (240th). The only exception is the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, ranked 4th continentally. This absence is due to the methodology favoring English-language research and higher budgets in Anglophone countries.

On Friday, China launched its Long March 10B rocket from Wenchang, Hainan, and recovered its first stage at sea using a net stretched over the ship LingHangZhe Navigator, a world first. The first stage separated about six minutes after liftoff and used four landing hooks to catch the net.
