The European Commission has accused Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, of designing both platforms to be 'addictive', breaching the Digital Services Act (DSA). It cited autoplay videos, personalized recommendations, and infinite scrolling as features that contribute to compulsive use. The commission called on Meta to amend default settings to disable these features. Meta faces hefty fines if it fails to comply.
