Aburi Accord: Ojukwu frustrated all peace moves — Gowon

Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, accuses late Biafran leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu of thwarting peace efforts before the 1967-1970 Civil War in his autobiography, My Life of Service and Allegiance. Gowon reflects on the tensions following the 1966 coups and political settlement attempts, particularly the January 1967 Aburi meeting, which failed due to differing interpretations of the accord. According to Gowon, Ojukwu's interpretation would have weakened the authority of the Federal Government.
