2027: INEC, NIMC move to eliminate duplicate voter records

Nigeria's Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) are deepening collaboration to eliminate duplicate voter records ahead of the 2027 elections. INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan announced that the new online Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) platform now requires the National Identification Number (NIN) for identity verification. NIMC Director-General Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote noted that the new NIMC Act, signed by President Bola Tinubu on June 26, 2026, elevates the commission into a foundational digital identity authority, thereby strengthening electoral integrity.
