From exile, Issa Tchiroma Bakary hails Cameroonian jurist’s international distinction

From The Gambia, Issa Tchiroma Bakary congratulated Professor Maurice Kengne Kamga on his election as president of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea on October 1, 2026. In a message published on October 26, the former minister called the appointment a source of pride for Cameroon and Africa. Kengne Kamga studied at the University of Yaoundé, Cameroon’s IRIC and the Graduate Institute in Geneva, and worked at Cameroon’s foreign ministry and international courts, including the International Court of Justice. Tchiroma Bakary, who continues to claim victory in the October 2025 presidential election, said Kengne Kamga’s career could inspire young people.
