Water Seller Sentenced to Life in Prison for Sexually Assaulting 7-Year-Old Boy in Kenya

Athumani Juma, a water seller, was sentenced to life in prison by a court in Msambweni, Kenya, for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy in Kwale County. The assault reportedly took place on June 7, 2025, after Juma lured the child to his home in Vivalani with a promise of sweets; the court found him guilty on October 5 after hearing five prosecution witnesses. The judge found the boy’s testimony credible and supported by medical evidence, and noted that the assault had forced him to leave school and receive psychological support. Convicted under Section 8 of Kenya’s 2006 Sexual Offences Act, Juma has 14 days to appeal.

Prince Epenge, an ADD Congo opposition figure and member of the Lamuka coalition, is being held at the National Cyberdefense Council in Kinshasa over alleged “spreading of false rumors” concerning the death of Manassé Lomboto. ECiDé Secretary-General Devos Kitoko says Epenge was prevented from traveling to Rome with a C64 delegation and arrested after insisting on getting his passport; his phones were seized and he was allegedly blindfolded. Kitoko says Epenge has been unable to see his lawyer or doctor and suffers from gastritis, and had not eaten or taken his medication before associates delivered them. The excerpt ends as Kitoko describes precautions taken to check the food given to the detainee.
