US lawmaker proposes sanctions against Canada over wildfire smoke

Republican Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio announced plans to introduce a bill called the CANADA FIRE Act to sanction Canada and Canadian officials over wildfire smoke that has degraded air quality in the US. The bill would require President Donald Trump to determine responsibility, freeze assets, revoke visas of officials deemed responsible, and ask Secretary of State Marco Rubio to declare certain officials persona non grata. This follows a letter from four Michigan Republican representatives to Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, accusing Canada of repeated negligence.
