Israeli forces turn Hebron homes into military posts amid lockdown

Israeli forces have forced residents from Palestinian homes in Hebron’s Khallat Manna and Dahiyat al-Zaytoun areas and turned the properties into barracks and observation posts, according to the Wafa news agency. The military imposed a lockdown and carried out hundreds of raids after an alleged attack on an Israeli army reserve base killed two soldiers; the two suspects were also killed. The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society says at least 47 Palestinians have been detained and 293 families, or about 2,200 people, displaced since Friday. Meanwhile, Israeli settlers have begun establishing two new outposts on Palestinian-owned land in Yatta, south of Hebron.

Bolsonaro, who led the first round on 4 October, has promised a crackdown on organised crime and cuts to taxes and public spending; he has also pledged to free his father, Jair Bolsonaro, who is serving a 27-year sentence for plotting a coup. Lula rallied supporters, including at a large gathering on Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana beach, after 33 million people did not vote in the first round. Supporters of both candidates held rallies in Rio as polling stations opened across the country.
