Benin: After the presidential election, Paul Hounkpè distances himself from his political party

A few days after the announcement of the results of the April 12, 2026 presidential election, Paul Hounkpè announced his resignation from the Forces Cauris for an Emerging Benin (FCBE) party in a letter dated April 28. He justifies his decision by a need to take a step back after more than six years of commitment, mentioning the ups and downs in his journey. The FCBE, founded in 2003, is going through a difficult period, having no deputies in the National Assembly or municipal councilors, and received only 4.78% of the votes in the 2026 legislative elections.
