Agony of an Ostracized Ebonyi Widow

Njideka Ngwutu, a widow from Nsokkara in Ebonyi State, says leaders and members of the Acharaukwu Development Union Women Wing ostracized her after she questioned a change in the venue for a women’s meeting. She alleges they acted without a fair hearing or proper investigation and are trying to drive her out to seize her late husband’s land and other family property. Married into the Ngwuta Anyigor family about 27 years ago and a mother of three, she says she is especially vulnerable after her husband and several other male relatives died. She has appealed to authorities and the public to intervene, saying her life and her children’s lives are in danger.
