British adventurer completes 28-year, 50,000km walk home

Karl Bushby, a 57-year-old former British paratrooper, arrived in Hull on Monday after completing a 50,000-kilometre, 28-year walk without using transport to advance his trek. Starting in Chile in 1998, he crossed the Americas, walked across the frozen Bering Strait and continued through parts of Central Asia and Europe. His expedition was suspended several times, including after Russia refused him a visa and during the 2008 financial crisis and COVID-19 pandemic, before ending to cheers from a crowd of up to 1,000 people. He was expected to reunite with his mother, his son Adam and a 12-year-old granddaughter he had never met.
