60 years of electricity without spent nuclear fuel: Rosatom’s proposal to Africa

At the Russia-Africa Energy Dialogue, Rosatom proposed a 100 MW floating nuclear power plant as a turnkey option for African countries, with a planned service life of 60 years. Vladimir Aptekarev, deputy director general of Rosatom’s Mechanical Engineering division, said the Akademik Lomonosov has operated in Pevek since 2020 and its fuel is reloaded every seven years. Under the proposed model, Rosatom supplies a ready-to-operate vessel and takes back the spent nuclear fuel, leaving the host country without responsibility for it. Aptekarev said 38 of Africa’s 54 countries have suitable coastlines and that energy pools could also supply landlocked countries.

Tibor Nagy Wants the US to Also Sanction Kinshasa, Which Has “Its Own Armed Groups”; Thérèse Kayikwamba Says the Situations Are Not Comparable

North Kivu: Child killed and six civilians wounded in shelling blamed on FRN in Walikale

A five-year-old child was killed and six civilians were seriously wounded on Wednesday, October 28, in Waloa Yungu, Walikale territory, North Kivu. Local customary and civil society sources blamed the explosive attacks on the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN) rebels, who reportedly targeted Wazalendo positions from Kibati and Kashebere; shells struck villages and a health facility serving displaced women and children. The wounded were taken to a local medical facility, and their condition remains worrying. The attacks came amid clashes between the Congolese army (FARDC), backed by Wazalendo, and the FRN, as the army seeks to retake areas of Walikale.
