Meet Nigeria’s Uar Bernard, first African pathway player drafted in NFL

Uar Bernard, from Abuja, was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2026 NFL Draft, becoming the first Nigerian and the first African to reach the league through the International Player Pathway Program. A former basketball player, he had never played American football before 2023. His career took off after being spotted at an NFL camp in Nigeria, followed by intensive training in Florida.
