Business closures surge by 55pc on liquidations, bankruptcy

At least 40 Kenyan companies sought voluntary liquidation or bankruptcy protection in the nine months to March, up from 24 a year earlier. Voluntary liquidations rose by 55.6 percent to 14, while bankruptcy applications jumped by 73.3 percent to 26. Despite lower inflation, a stronger shilling, and successive interest-rate cuts, businesses continue to face cash flow pressures due to weak consumer spending and delayed payments. Business formations remained resilient with 109,350 new entities registered.
