Egypt sacks head coach Hossam Hassan over ex-wife scandal

The Egyptian Football Association dismissed head coach Hossam Hassan and his staff, citing the negative impact of controversies surrounding his marital life on the national team’s image and stability. Ali Maher, who coaches Ceramica Cleopatra, was appointed as his replacement. Three days earlier, Egypt’s Supreme Council for Media Regulation had barred Hassan from appearing on media platforms in a case involving his former wife, Dina Mostafa, publicly known as “Dan Adam”; her representatives denied allegations of forgery and bigamy. Hassan’s departure follows a series of disputes despite Egypt reaching the last 16 of the 2026 World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations semifinals before finishing fourth.
