Mobile money in UEMOA: free transfers and increased limits, changes from November 2

Starting November 2, 2026, BCEAO will make domestic mobile money transfers free up to 8,000 FCFA per day across the eight UEMOA countries, with account balance limits increasing from 2 to 4 million FCFA and monthly recharge limits rising from 10 to 15 million FCFA. These changes impact millions of users in West Africa, where electronic money usage has grown rapidly despite low traditional banking penetration. Interoperable transactions will now be required to pass through the PI-SPI platform.
