Commodity prices are set to rise in 2026, while energy costs may stabilize in 2027

The World Bank forecasts that commodity prices will rise 23% in 2026 before falling 7% in 2027. Energy prices are projected to climb 32% this year, with Brent averaging $91 a barrel, then easing to $79 in 2027; staple food prices are expected to rise 10% in 2026 and another 7% in 2027. The Middle East conflict, disrupted grain shipments and El Niño threaten supplies and food affordability. In an adverse scenario, Brent could average $105 a barrel in 2027 and staple foods could cost 12% more than the baseline forecast; the World Bank says it has made $50 billion to $60 billion available to help countries manage higher prices.
