The Eastern Cape Health MEC Ntandokazi Capa announced a R76 million security upgrade for hospitals in Gqeberha following over 100 incidents of break-ins and robberies at health facilities across the province, causing approximately R1.5 million in damage. The three-year project includes construction of secure boundary walls, installation of CCTV surveillance and perimeter lighting, and refurbishment of gatehouses. Capa stated that every break-in compromises patient safety and disrupts healthcare services.
