INEC Is Nigeria’s Most Innovative Public Institution, but Sabotage and Corruption Are Its Biggest Problems, Says Mike Igini

Former Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Igini called INEC Nigeria’s most innovative public institution, while warning that sabotage and corruption are undermining it. Speaking on Channels Television, he cited BVAS, IReV and Form EC60E as innovations intended to make elections more transparent. He accused political actors of infiltrating the recruitment of temporary electoral staff, particularly through NYSC lists, to rig elections. Igini warned that unless INEC’s innovations are protected from internal saboteurs and corrupt politicians, Nigerians will judge the 2027 general election harshly.
