In Tanzania, Clean Water Improves Lives and Health Outcomes

In the village of Kiperesa in northern Tanzania, over 12,000 residents now have access to reliable clean water thanks to the World Bank-financed Sustainable Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Program (SRWSSP). Previously, women like Hawa Selemani walked up to five hours to fetch water. The local Kimwiche Community-Based Water Supply Organization (CBWSO), trained under the program, added 75 new water points and achieved a 70% household connection rate in Chekanao. The program, implemented between 2019 and 2025, combines infrastructure and training to ensure sustainable water management.
