Amnesty International has called for urgent investigations into alleged human rights violations by security forces during Uganda's disputed January 15 elections. The organization documented at least 16 suspected killings, arbitrary arrests, and cases of torture. Among the serious incidents, soldiers reportedly shot dead at least seven people in Butambala, and a woman was fatally shot in Lubaga while returning home from voting. Amnesty interviewed 48 people and noted that authorities did not respond to its requests for comment.
