Amazon picks Kenya for first African satellite gateway in Starlink challenge

Amazon will build its first African satellite ground station in Kenya through its subsidiary Amazon Kuiper Kenya Limited, aiming to provide faster internet and compete with Starlink. The company has applied for a 15-year international gateway license from the Communications Authority of Kenya. The station will reduce data transmission time between satellites and users, improving internet speeds. The project, called Amazon Leo (formerly Project Kuiper), plans a direct-to-device service without cell towers.
