Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has urged residents along the Pacific coast to stay indoors as Hurricane Simon, reaching Category 4 with winds of 240 km/h, impacts the region with heavy rains and flooding. Torrential rains have already affected areas between the Sierra Madre mountains and the ocean, with warnings of mudslides in hilly regions. The U.S. National Hurricane Center warned that Simon could bring an additional 20 to 41 cm of rain, with the greatest risk at Cabo Corrientes in Jalisco. 28 municipalities in Jalisco and Colima have been placed under the highest cyclone alert.
