AFCON Every Two Years: CAF Considers Reversing Its Decision

CAF is considering reversing its calendar reform for the Africa Cup of Nations, announced in December 2025 by Patrice Motsepe, which planned a four-year cycle starting in 2028. During a press conference in Cape Verde, Motsepe confirmed that the matter is under review for a possible return to a biennial tournament, with an executive committee vote upcoming. The next AFCON is scheduled for 2027 in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, but future decisions will depend on African football leaders. The planned African Nations League from 2029 may also be affected by this potential change.
