Ohanaeze Youths seek redeployment of INEC commissioner

The Ohanaeze Youth Forum (OYF) has called on Nigeria’s electoral commission, INEC, to redeploy National Commissioner Dr. Ken Nnamdi Ukeagu, who oversees Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi states. The group accuses him of partisanship, including allegedly advising opposition parties and candidates and leaking sensitive electoral documents; the claims have not been independently verified. OYF urged INEC Chairman Professor Joash Amupitan to redeploy Ukeagu pending a transparent investigation and said it would submit a petition with supporting evidence. Ukeagu did not respond in the statement provided to journalists.

Nigeria borrows to build, not to bridge fiscal gaps, Tinubu says

President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria is redirecting borrowing toward infrastructure to support growth, create jobs and help achieve the goal of a $1 trillion economy by 2030. Tinubu listed priority projects including the Lagos-Calabar and Sokoto-Badagry highways, and said Lot 2 of the Lagos-Calabar highway was more than 80% complete in August 2026. He also noted that public debt stood at 35.75% of GDP in the second quarter and debt servicing consumed about 65% of revenue in the first half of the year.

Tshisekedi reaffirmed his preference for diplomatic efforts through the Washington and Doha processes, alongside African Union mediation, and called for verifiable implementation of diplomatic progress. He also listed energy, infrastructure, local mineral processing, food security and fertilizer as DRC economic priorities.
