Cape Town EPWP workers go weeks without pay as City investigates delays
Thirty-four participants in the City of Cape Town’s EPWP Swimming Pools Project in Manenberg and Wynberg have gone more than a month without pay. Employed through the City’s Recreation and Parks Department, the workers say the delays have made it difficult to cover basic expenses. One Manenberg worker, who found a job last month after four years of unemployment, says she has worked without pay and believes the problem lies at the City’s head office rather than with her supervisors. The City cites administrative problems and says the outstanding wages should reach workers’ bank accounts by Friday, October 30, 2026.
