Benin: Lawmakers to review the Highway Code and two other matters on Monday, October 26

Benin’s lawmakers are scheduled to meet in plenary in Porto-Novo at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 26, 2026, to consider three matters. The agenda includes National Assembly President Joseph Djogbénou’s activity report for April 22 to September 30 and a bill authorizing ratification of the agreement establishing the African Legal Support Facility. The main item is a proposed new Highway Code, prepared for review at a seminar in Grand-Popo on October 20. It would establish legal blood-alcohol limits, penalties for drug-impaired driving and extreme speeding, child restraint requirements, and road-safety education in schools.
