Nairobi Matatus Face Reorganisation as Kenya Railways Upgrades Stations

Kenya Railways is reorganising matatu operations around Nairobi Central Railway Station to make room for the Ksh30 billion Nairobi Railway City Project. The plan provides eight passenger drop-off areas, two matatu lanes and Green Park Terminus as a holding area. The measures were presented to operators at a meeting led by project manager Milly Kiziili on October 23 and are intended to keep public transport running during construction, alongside improvements to lighting, drainage, roads and pedestrian safety. The 438-acre public-private partnership project is set to integrate standard- and metre-gauge rail, BRT and non-motorised transport.
