Ministry of Health Defends Kenya’s Ebola Response Amid Saudi Arabia Restrictions

Kenyan Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale called Saudi Arabia’s restrictions on travellers from Kenya excessive and unsupported by the country’s epidemiological situation. Kenya had reported nine confirmed infections and two deaths by October 26; all 135 contacts linked to the imported case were identified, 118 were quarantined, and no wider community transmission or new infections had been reported since October 19. Five of the seven patients in treatment recorded a first negative test and were due for a second test on November 2; five patients and 46 symptom-free contacts could be released on November 3. Epidemiologist Eric Feigl-Ding says the political participation is an effort to promote responsible healthcare policies and counter misinformation.

Nigeria has identified two more suspected Ebola cases in the country’s northeast; both people have been isolated and laboratory tests are underway, but the cases are not yet confirmed. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, which has reported more than 10,000 cases and 5,000 deaths since May 2026, doctor Marie-France Shogogo died of Ebola in Beni, North Kivu. Saudi Arabia has barred Kenyans from entering and restricted its citizens from traveling to Nairobi because of the outbreak. Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, objected to the measures, saying the country had handled the Ebola situation well and the threat was minimal.
