Afghan women’s refugee team allowed to play in FIFA tournaments

The Afghan women's refugee team, now known as the Afghanistan women's football team, has been recognized by the FIFA Council to participate in international competitions. This decision comes nearly five years after the players fled Taliban rule. While it is too late for them to qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup, they could participate in the qualification for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
