Africa: Millions go hungry while 70 million tonnes of food are wasted

On World Hunger Day, the NGO MaFondation calls on African leaders to address the paradox of hunger and waste. Over 70 million tonnes of food are lost or wasted annually in Africa, while millions remain hungry. In sub-Saharan Africa, losses exceed 50% for fruits and vegetables due to lack of storage and transport infrastructure. MaFondation proposes an African Pact for Zero Hunger, Zero Waste 2035, aiming to halve food losses, feed 100 million people with saved food, and create one million green jobs.
