Africa: Over 1,000 Humanitarians Have Been Killed in Three Years, Security Council Hears

In 2025, at least 326 humanitarians were killed across 21 countries, bringing the total to over 1,010 in three years. More than 560 of these deaths occurred in Gaza and the West Bank, followed by 130 in Sudan and 60 in South Sudan. UN aid coordinator Tom Fletcher stated that this situation reflects a collapse of protection for humanitarian workers, who are often harassed and arrested while performing their duties.
