Airtel filed a complaint with the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK) accusing Safaricom of charging voice calls as low as 10 cents a minute, below the mobile termination rate (MTR) of 41 cents, which it termed predatory pricing. The CAK dismissed the complaint, ruling that Safaricom's promotion was legal as it was limited to 90 days under the law. The decision is a blow to Airtel, which had previously called for tough action against Safaricom, which holds a 67% market share. The watchdog found no evidence of abuse of dominance.
