Alarm: Cut-throat rent hikes worsening Nigeria’s housing crisis

An alarming housing crisis is unfolding in Nigeria, forcing many families to relocate or sink into debt. Arbitrary rent hikes, exacerbated by the excesses of some landlords and estate agents, are making access to decent housing increasingly difficult. Experts estimate that about 550,000 housing units need to be built annually to bridge a deficit of 14.9 million units, while living costs continue to rise.
