Alleged plot to abduct schoolchildren: Edo govt reopens schools days after closure

The Edo State Government has ordered the reopening of three schools closed four days earlier due to a security alert about a planned mass abduction of schoolchildren in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area. The affected schools are Ososo Grammar School, Ososo Comprehensive High School, and Makeke Secondary School. Reopening takes effect from June 15, 2026, after enhanced security measures and additional safety mechanisms were deployed. Candidates for the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) are allowed to sit for their exams under strict security arrangements.
