As Iran and US near a deal, Tehran remembers another recent bloody conflict

Iran is marking the anniversary of the 12-day war against Israel in June 2025, as negotiations between Tehran and Washington for a comprehensive peace deal near conclusion. Dozens of senior military commanders, including Chief of Staff Mohammad Bagheri and IRGC commander Hossein Salami, were killed in that war. Universities are holding commemorations for assassinated nuclear scientists like Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi. Over 1,000 Iranians died in the 12-day conflict.
