Africa bigger, US smaller – UN adopts new map

The United Nations General Assembly voted on September 4, 2026, to support a resolution led by several African countries to adopt a map that enlarges Africa and reduces the size of the United States. This initiative aims to correct geographical distortions in traditional cartographic representations. The adopted map uses the Equal Earth cartographic projection, which highlights the actual size of continents.
