The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) has identified 357 areas contaminated by landmines in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, mainly in the East due to the activities of armed groups. In Ituri, explosive devices are frequently discovered, particularly in the territories of Djugu and Irumu. Approximately 25 devices have been neutralized since the beginning of 2026, but others remain in hard-to-reach areas. The United Nations is intensifying awareness actions to alert communities to the dangers posed by these explosives.
