Ministry of Health Absorbs 7,414 UHC Workers Into Permanent and Pensionable Terms

The Ministry of Health has announced the official conversion of 7,414 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) workers from contract to permanent and pensionable terms. This follows a presidential directive from September 2025. The workers, hired during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, will now be managed by the 47 counties, with payroll transfer effective July 1, 2026. Parliament allocated Ksh 8.94 billion for the transition, though unions have raised sustainability concerns.
