At least 439 human rights violations recorded in January 2026 in DRC (UNJHRO)

In January 2026, the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO) recorded at least 439 human rights violations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, primarily in the East. Although this figure represents a decrease from the previous month, the situation remains concerning, with nearly 70% of abuses attributed to armed groups such as the M23 and ADF. National security forces are also implicated in nearly 30% of violations, and 42 political actors were detained in a context of arbitrary arrests.
