The influx of Sudanese refugees accelerates in Chad amid humanitarian crisis

Over 55,000 Sudanese refugees have fled to eastern Chad since the beginning of the year, according to the UN, which warns of increasing displacement amid largely underfunded humanitarian aid. Nearly one million people have crossed into Chad since the conflict in Sudan started in April 2023, which has resulted in over 200,000 deaths and a major hunger and displacement crisis. More than 400 people cross the border daily in eastern Chad, mainly at Adré and Tiné, at a rate about 20 times higher than previous months, with critical situations in Darfur, Kordofan, and Blue Nile states.
