UK shuts down British Council offices in Tanzania

The UK is closing British Council offices in Tanzania and nine other countries, including Mozambique in Africa. The decision is driven by financial strain, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic which devastated its commercial income. The British Council says it needs to reduce overseas presence to become 'modern, efficient and sustainable'. Development programmes will continue through other means.
