The British and Germans' Brutality in the Kasighau Hills Massacre along Kenya-Tanzania borderline

On August 12, 1915, German soldiers captured two Kasighau villagers, Mwashutu and Kinona, forcing them to disclose the location of British troops. In retaliation for a German attack, the British destroyed homes in Kasighau, forcing the locals to walk to Maungu without food or water. Approximately 3,000 people left Kasighau, but only 600 survived the journey to Malindi, with nearly 2,700 dying en route. The remaining Kasighau were allowed to return home in 1936, only to find most of their land gone.
