World Rhino Day: five species still threatened to protect

Every September 22, World Rhino Day highlights the critical situation of the five remaining rhino species on Earth. Approximately 26,700 rhinos exist, including nearly 15,800 white rhinos and about 6,800 black rhinos. The Javan and Sumatran rhinos are particularly threatened, with only around 50 and between 34 and 47 individuals left, respectively. Poaching, habitat loss, and climate change remain the main threats to their survival.
