How three insurers collapsed with Sh3.4bn clients’ claims

Three Kenyan insurers, Trident Insurance Company, Kuscco Mutual Assurance, and Corporate Insurance Company, were placed under statutory management due to financial violations, owing over Sh3.43 billion in unpaid claims to more than 20,000 clients. The Insurance Regulatory Authority made this decision on March 11, 2026, and the Policyholders Compensation Fund plans to start compensation payments from mid-July. The maximum compensation amount was doubled to Sh500,000 in January 2026.
