Benin: He Poses as a Currency Trader and Ends Up at the Criet

A young man appeared before the Court for the repression of economic offenses and terrorism (CRIET) for internet fraud, having defrauded a victim of 509,000 FCFA by posing as a currency trader. The case originated from a misdial, with the victim mistakenly contacting the defendant. He is also suspected of cybercriminal activities, using digital platforms to deceive other potential victims. The public prosecutor has requested a five-year prison sentence and a fine of two million FCFA, with a decision expected on June 25, 2026.
