Benin: Mayor of Cotonou announces about a hundred public toilets under construction

The mayor of Cotonou, Luc Gnacadja, announced on July 16, 2026, on SRTB television the launch of the construction of about a hundred public toilets in the city. Work has already started on several sites, covering two-thirds of the neighborhoods in this first phase. A second phase will extend the facilities to the entire city, sometimes with two toilets per neighborhood. The mayor emphasized daily maintenance and management to prevent vandalism, and linked the project to urban waste management, recalling the role of the SGDS company.
